Step-by-Step Guide to Checking Patent Application Status on IP India

Wondering what’s happening with your patent application? Whether you're a startup founder, researcher, or individual inventor, staying informed about your application's status is essential. Fortunately, the IP India portal makes this process quick and transparent. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you check your patent application status online.


Step 1: Visit the IP India Website


Go to Google and type “IP India”, or directly visit the official website at https://ipindia.gov.in.

Step 2: Click on the “Public Search” Option


On the homepage, locate and click on the “Public Search” link. This will take you to the search services available to the public.


Step 3: Select the “Patents” Option


Under Public Search, click on “Patents”. This will open a new window that takes you to the patent search engine.



Step 4: Choose “Application Status”


In the new window, choose “Application Status” from the available search options. A form will appear where you need to enter your Application Number and the captcha code. After filling these fields, press Enter or click the search button.


Step 5: View Status and Access Documents


Once your application details appear, you’ll be able to view its current status. To see more details, click on the “Documents” button. This section contains all official communications and documents submitted to or issued by the Patent Office.



This simple online process allows you to track your patent's journey, whether it’s published, under examination, granted, or objected. Keeping an eye on this status helps ensure you respond in time and stay in control of your intellectual property.
